⌨️ Typing Sprint
Tip: click the word box any time to refocus — on phones this opens the keyboard.
How to play
Typing Sprint is a pure 60-second race against the clock. A stream of common English words fills the box, and the active word is highlighted in blue. Type it letter by letter exactly as shown: correct letters turn green the instant you hit them, wrong ones flash red so you can see mistakes the moment they happen. When the word is done, press Space to lock it in and jump to the next one — the stream refills itself automatically, so you will never run out of words. If you slip up mid-word, Backspace deletes your last letter and lets you fix it before submitting. Typing past the end of a word does nothing, which keeps stray keystrokes from wrecking your run. While you race, the HUD tracks your live WPM, your accuracy, and the seconds left. When the timer hits zero, the results overlay shows your final WPM, accuracy percentage, and total correct characters.
Controls
- Physical keyboard: just start typing — letters appear in the highlighted word. This is the primary way to play.
- Space or Enter: submits the current word and moves to the next. Empty submissions are ignored.
- Backspace: deletes the last typed letter so you can correct a mistake before submitting.
- Mobile: tap the Start button and the keyboard opens automatically. If it ever dismisses, tap the word box to bring it back.
- Restart resets the timer and the word stream instantly for another run.
Tips & strategy
- Don't chase raw speed — WPM only counts correct characters, so a wild burst full of errors scores worse than a steady, clean run.
- Fix mistakes with Backspace before hitting Space. One corrected letter beats a red word that earns you nothing.
- Read ahead: while your fingers finish the current word, let your eyes find the next one. Touch-typists who never look at the keyboard gain the most here.
- Find a rhythm instead of bursting. Short words reward fast Space taps; long words reward calm, even keystrokes.
- Warm up with one full run before you try to beat your best — your fingers type faster on the second attempt.
Scoring
Your WPM (words per minute) equals your correct characters — including a bonus character for every perfectly typed word's space — divided by 5, divided by the minutes elapsed. Accuracy is your correct keystrokes divided by your total keystrokes, shown live and at the end. The results overlay also reports your total correct characters, so you can track progress across sessions: a rising WPM with accuracy above 95% means your technique is genuinely improving.
