About Klondike Classic
Klondike is the solitaire everyone knows โ the card game that has ended more boring afternoons than any other. You get a shuffled deck, seven tableau columns, and one goal: stack all 52 cards onto the four foundation piles, each running Ace through King in a single suit. Our version plays classic draw-1 rules with unlimited redeals of the stock, so every deal is genuinely winnable if you play it right.
How to play
Twenty-eight cards are dealt into seven tableau columns (the last card of each column face up) and the rest wait in the stock. Tap the stock to flip one card onto the waste pile. Build the tableau downward in alternating colors โ a red 7 goes on a black 8, a black Jack on a red Queen. Only a King (with its whole stack) may move into an empty column. Foundations build upward by suit from Ace to King. Drag cards with your mouse or finger, double-click a card to send it straight to its foundation, or single-click a card and let the game find its best legal move. Flip every hidden tableau card as soon as you can โ buried cards are buried options.
Controls
- Mouse / touch: drag cards between piles; double-click (double-tap) sends a top card to its foundation; click the stock to draw; single-click a card for auto-move.
- Keyboard: N deals a fresh game, Z undoes your last move.
- Buttons: Undo reverses any move, New Deal reshuffles, and Auto-Finish appears once every card is face up and the stock is empty.
Tips & strategy
- Free the face-down cards first. Moves that flip a hidden tableau card are almost always the best moves on the board.
- Don't rush aces to the foundations. Early in the game those low cards are the glue holding your tableau stacks together โ send them home once the board is stable.
- Empty a column on purpose. An empty column that only accepts Kings is your most powerful tool for untangling long stacks.
- Think before you draw. With unlimited redeals there's no penalty for cycling, but every waste card you ignore is a move you didn't make.
- Longest stack wins ties. When two moves look equal, the one that extends your longest descending run usually opens more options.
Scoring
You earn 10 points for every card moved to a foundation, 5 points for moving waste cards onto the tableau, and 5 points for each tableau card you flip face up. Moving a card back from a foundation costs 15 points. Fewer moves and a faster clock don't change the score directly โ but clean, confident play is what fills the foundations.
