The ancient five-in-a-row duel. You play black and move first; the AI plays white and never misses a block. Click or tap any intersection to place your stone — line up five in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally to win.

How to play

Gomoku is the classic race to five in a row. You play the black stones and always move first; the AI answers with white. Click or tap any empty intersection (or move the cursor with the arrow keys and press Space) to place your stone. The first side to link five stones in a row — horizontally, vertically or diagonally — wins. If the board fills with no winner, the game is a draw.

Controls

Mouse / touch: click or tap an intersection to place a stone.
Keyboard: arrow keys move the cursor, Space or Enter places the stone. Restart starts a fresh game.

Tips & strategy

Open with the centre — it gives the most directions to build on.
The AI always blocks an open four, so create two threats at once (for example, an open three in two directions) to force a win.
Watch for the AI's quiet diagonal builds — they are the easiest threats to miss.

Scoring

Each game won scores +1 for you or the AI; draws score nothing. The Moves counter shows how many stones you placed this game.
