🐛 Bug Blaster
Move: ← → or A / D · Shoot: Space · Mobile: drag to move, tap to shoot.
How to play
Bug Blaster is a love letter to the classic Centipede arcade cabinets. A long, segmented bug chain descends from the top of the screen, snaking left and right through a field of mushrooms. You pilot a lone blaster along the bottom of the field, and your job is simple: shoot the chain apart before it crawls down far enough to reach you. Every bullet that strikes a segment destroys it — but the chain doesn't die quietly. The hit splits the chain in two, and the broken-off tail becomes a brand-new head that drops toward you at even higher speed. Destroyed segments don't vanish either: each one sprouts into a fresh mushroom, and mushrooms bend the chain's path, forcing it to drop a row and reverse direction whenever it bumps into one. You can shoot mushrooms too — two hits clears one — so carve firing lanes through the densest patches. If any bug segment reaches your blaster's row, or a diving head rams you, you lose a life. You get 3 lives, and clearing a whole wave summons a longer, faster chain for the next round.
Controls
- Keyboard: hold ← / → (or A / D) to slide your blaster along the bottom. Press Space to fire upward.
- Touch: drag your finger anywhere on the playfield to steer the blaster — it tracks your fingertip horizontally. A quick tap (without dragging) fires a shot.
- New Game restarts instantly at wave 1 with a fresh mushroom field and your score reset.
Tips & strategy
- Aim for the middle of the chain, not the head. A middle hit creates two shorter chains, but a head hit just makes the tail dive at you faster — pick your moment.
- Keep the bottom rows clear. Mushrooms near your blaster give diving heads cover to drop quickly, so spend a few shots clearing the lowest rows early.
- Watch for the dive. When a chain splits, the new head drops a full row instantly and speeds up — back off and line up your next shot instead of holding your ground.
- Fire in bursts. You can keep several shots in the air at once, so lead the head slightly and let a stream of bullets walk into the chain's path.
Scoring
Every destroyed bug segment scores 10 points and every smashed mushroom scores 1 point. Clearing an entire wave banks a bonus of 50 × the wave number. There is no finish line — waves keep coming longer and faster, so your final score is your bragging right. Losing all 3 lives ends the run and the game-over screen shows your score with a one-click restart.
